Psychotherapy

I believe in human beings' capacity for change. I feel that it is our natural tendency towards growth, creativity and authenticity. Given the right conditions, openness to awareness and connection to self-responsibility, we can choose to lead fulfilling and meaningful lives with close connection to ourselves, other people and the world around us.

I accept that your reasons for starting therapy may be varied. You may feel overwhelmed with your emotions or disconnected from yourself? You may have had life experiences which you feel create obstacles between who are you now and where you want to be? Or have a general feeling that something just isn’t right?

Whatever your reason for seeking therapy, I appreciate it has taken some effort to get this far and with that you may recognise that an aspect of yourself craves change and maybe even hopes it is possible?

A strong relationship is, I believe, what makes therapy, therapeutic. In other words, therapy is about building a trusting and communicative, working relationship. Part of my role is to offer the conditions; empathy, acceptance and genuineness which are at the root of cultivating therapeutic alliance.

By offering these conditions, I will meet you as a whole person and remain open and curious to what you feel you want to bring to the session. I do not perceive myself as the expert of your life, you are. I will encounter you in the sessions, holding my understanding that you are of inherent worth and value.

I work with the belief that your distress does not mean that something is ‘wrong’ with you. Rather I accept that some aspects of your life may feel wrong and psychotherapy feels required to facilitate the changes needed, as exploring this alone may feel overwhelming.

Using your experiences, emotions and thoughts as guides, we can work in a collaborative and creative way, to understand what aspects of your life feel out of balance and incongruent. In order to navigate to a place which feels more aligned to who you are now. We can work towards an understanding of what it actually ‘feels’ like to live with meaning and genuineness.

I recognise that you may arrive in our work together with a form of a diagnosis. I am open to hearing about your experiences with this. However, our work will focus on the ‘what now?’ part of this process. We can use this information as the start, rather than the end of the important question of ‘who am I?’.

The intention behind this, is to explore who you are underneath the diagnosis and how this awareness can support you in approaching yourself and others in a more accepting, honest and growth orientated way.

Where?

I work online and in-person. I am based in the UK and my office is in Cumbria, England. If you wish to work online, you will need to ensure you have a quiet, safe and confidential space, where you will be undisturbed for the duration of the session. You will also need stable internet connection.

I work with people from all over the world. However, I am unable to work with individuals based in the USA and Canada. This is due to licensing laws in these countries.

Fee and Availability

I am available for sessions Tuesday-Friday during the daytime.  Each session is 1 hour and costs £60 per hour.

Frequency

We will meet on a weekly basis. This frequency offers the most effective way for the therapeutic relationship to develop, for the process of therapy to be integrated into your routine and for it to feel beneficial. We can review after 8 weeks to see if it feels necessary to meet less frequently, where fortnightly sessions may be arranged.

What next?

If you wish to pursue therapy or need to ask any further questions, get in touch with me by using the contact form. We will begin by arranging a free initial 30 minute online call.
